Media Vault & Recent Activity

Well, I've been hard at work on Osmek for the last month. A lot of the work and updates I've been doing are going on behind the scenes, preparing things for a full on launch, but today I'm happy to tell you about two new features that I hope will enrich your Osmek experience.

The Media Vault

I'm happy to say that the media vault is finally active! I know some of you have been waiting patiently for this for a few months now. In Osmek 1.0 we had a photo vault, and a file vault. These are now combined into 1 area of your account, and you can get to it from the bottom right of the screen.

NOTE: if you don't see the media vault button you will need to turn on permissions for your user. Go to "My Account", click "Users", and edit user permissions. You'll see an option for the Media Vault. If you can't get to My Account, your permissions may be too limited to do this and you'll need to get in touch with your account administrator.

From the media vault you can review, update, and delete the photos and files you've uploaded to your account.

We're also in the beginnings of implementing some usages statistics. You'll see this information displayed when you select a single image or file. We've been tracking stats for files since Osmek 1.0 so you should see some interesting information there. We plan to tweak and improve the way stats are collected and displayed, so keep your eyes open, and don't hesitate to let us know if you have an idea!

Recent Activity

You'll notice that there's a new section on your homepage now displaying a list of recent activity. Osmek has an internal system log that keeps track of what is done where. We want to use these logs to help you keep track of what happens to your content. This will be especially helpful if you have multiple users in your account, or your site uses Osmek's API to update or create new content.

For now, the log is limited to the homepage of your account, but as we come up with useful ways to display this data we'll be expanding it's functionality to some of the internal sections. Again, if you have an idea about how we can make this more useful for you, leave it in the comments!

Other Updates

With these new features comes a number of other updates and bug fixes. Here are a few. Please feel free to report bugs or problems in the comments!

  • The user interface has been formatted for consistency between section modules
  • A bug causing the text editor to grow much longer than needed has been fixed
  • User permissions have been updated
  • Updated My Account section to allow section sorting
  • The unsubscribe link in emails sent through the mailer has been fixed.
  • The API has been updated to include new functionality
  • Delete All Spam button added in the comments section.

Love the new "delete all spam" feature...saves me A LOT of time!

Question: will the option to crop and adjust photos be implemented soon? Thanks, Matt!

Yes, the cropping feature is coming! I can't say exactly when, but it IS coming.
